City Council Regular
Consider Resolution No. 18-53 Approving Lions Coon Creek Park Playground Grant Application
Sarah Greene, Administrative Assistant II
City staff plans to submit a grant application for a local match from the Department of Natural Resources for playground equipment at Lion’s Coon Creek Park as part of Project 18-10. The application requires an Applicant’s Resolution approving the application to the State.
Grant writing support services are provided via the Anoka County SHIP grant partners program. City staff has worked within these services to identify a grant and project suitable for submission. The Lion’s Coon Creek Park playground was identified as a component with benefits that meet the description of the DNR’s Outdoor Recreation Grant Program. If awarded, this competitive grant would provide matching funds up to the $50,000 pledged by the Coon Rapids Lion’s Club for the project.
The playground project goal is to provide ADA and accessible components and surfacing to a new playground as part of the park improvement project. These potential funds would assist in attaining a destination type playground facility at Lions Park, as was the direction of the City Council during the planning phase of the project.
City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 18-53 approving the application for the DNR's Outdoor Recreation Grant Program.
