City Council Regular
National Public Works Week Proclamation
Sarah Greene, Administrative Assistant II
Council is asked to recognize our outstanding Public Works staff as we approach National Public Works Week, May 19 through 25, 2019.
Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week. Across North America, more than 30,000 members in the US and Canada use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of the contribution of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and operating the infrastructure within our local communities.
This year's theme, "It Starts Here," represents the many facets of modern civilization that grow from the efforts put forth by our public works professionals. From providing clean water to disposing of solid waste, to building roads and bridges or planning for and implementing mass transit, to removing snow on roadways or devising emergency management strategies to meet natural or manmade disasters - our citizens' quality of life starts with public works.
Council and staff are asked to recognize our Public Works staff for their hard work and contributions to the City of Coon Rapids. Staff would also like to invite the public to an open house on Saturday, May 18. The event will occur at the Public Works facility located at 1831 111th Avenue NW from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Staff requests the Mayor read the Proclamation into the record, and invite the public to the May 18, 2019 open house event.
